Why choose battery storage?

A battery storage system gives you control over your energy supply: independent, predictable and future-proof. Not only do you reduce your energy costs, but you also contribute to more sustainable consumption. By storing energy during off-peak hours and using it at peak times, you increase your efficiency and avoid additional grid costs such as peak loads and excess charges.

Cost savings

With smart storage and thoughtful consumption, your energy bill will be permanently reduced. You can take advantage of cheap moments on the energy market and avoid expensive peak hours.

Greater energy independence

By reducing your dependence on the electricity grid, you can protect your business against price fluctuations and unexpected increases.

Security in the event of a power failure

An integrated backup keeps your essential processes running. This prevents downtime, damage or loss of productivity.

More sustainable business practices

Surplus energy from solar panels or wind turbines is stored and used when you need it. This increases your share of renewable energy and reduces your CO₂ emissions.

For which sectors is battery storage of interest?

Battery storage offers measurable benefits in a wide range of sectors. Whether it's lower energy costs, greater operational reliability or more sustainable energy use, these sectors are already reaping the rewards.

  • Transport and logistics
  • Chemicals and petrochemicals
  • SMEs and craft businesses (e.g. carpenters, metalworking, bakeries)
  • Telecom and data centres
  • Hospitals and healthcare institutions
  • Agricultural businesses (VLIF support possible for investments)

Revenue models with industrial battery storage

An industrial battery solution not only gives you more control over your energy supply, but also offers various revenue models that make your investment profitable and structurally reduce your energy costs. These are the most important applications:

1. Self-consumption & capacity optimisation

By storing locally generated or cheaply purchased energy, you increase your own consumption of sustainable energy. This reduces your dependence on the electricity grid and lowers your energy costs on a structural basis. Industrial batteries are also used for peak shaving: smoothing out consumption peaks. This reduces your peak power and capacity tariff, which since 2023 has been based in part on the highest quarter-hourly peaks.

2. Business continuity in the event of a power failure

In the event of a power outage, the battery storage system can automatically continue to supply electricity. This keeps critical processes operational and avoids costly downtime. This is particularly crucial in sectors such as hospitals, care institutions and data centres.

3. Energy trading & market optimisation

Batteries enable you to respond intelligently to price fluctuations. On the day-ahead market (such as EpexSpot), you charge the battery during off-peak hours and discharge it when prices rise. The imbalance market also offers opportunities: batteries respond in real time to surpluses and shortages on the grid. Energy companies and BRPs (such as Yuso, Elindus, Scholt or Centrica) use battery capacity for this purpose, which can generate additional income.

4. Grid balancing via grid services

Batteries actively contribute to the stability of the electricity grid. Services such as FCR (Frequency Containment Reserve) and aFRR (Automatic Frequency Restoration Reserve) maintain the grid frequency at 50 Hz. By working with a BSP (Balance Service Provider), your battery capacity can be used for this purpose, generating an additional revenue stream.
